A common question during construction is how involved you need to be once the project is underway. Many clients assume they need to be on-site frequently, but in most cases, that’s not necessary.
During the early stages—such as planning and design—your involvement is more hands-on. This is when key decisions are made about layout, materials, and overall direction. Once construction begins, the day-to-day work is typically managed by the contractor and their team.
Most projects include regular updates, which may come in the form of emails, photos, or scheduled check-ins. These updates allow you to stay informed without needing to physically be on-site. However, there are certain moments where site visits are especially valuable, such as walkthroughs during framing, major installation milestones, or the final punch list phase.
A well-managed project is designed to reduce the need for constant oversight. Instead, your role becomes more about making timely decisions and staying aligned with the overall vision.
In short, you don’t need to be present every day—just engaged at the right times.
